Dudley Promise Corps Site Director

Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School, a BPE Teaching Academy

Dudley Promise Corps is a full-time AmeriCorps service program launched by BPE in 2013 with the mission of increasing student engagement in order to ensure students in Boston are on track to attend college and become responsible citizens who serve their community. Dudley Promise Corps members serve together in BPE’s Teaching Academies-- the Dudley School Neighborhood Charter School (Grades prek-5) and Dearborn STEM Academy (Grades 6-12). DPC members provide individual, classroom and whole-school support and lead enrichment programming.


BPE is seeking a DPC Site Director at the Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School (DSNCS) to advance the ambitious goals of the program and ensure members receive necessary training, support, and formal supervision during their year of service. DPC members serve grades PreK- 5 and specifically aim to support the objective of ensuring all students are reading proficiently. As part of the DPC Program Team, this position offers a unique opportunity for someone with a passion for service and urban education to help further develop a young program with demonstrated success. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Boston Promise Corps Program Director.


The responsibilities of the DPC Site Directorinclude, but are not limited to, the following areas:

Leadership for DPC Members

  • Provide on-site leadership to a team of approximately 15 DPC members serving at the school. This includes formal supervision of DPC members to ensure they are meeting program and school expectations.

  • Provide coaching to DPC members, including bi-weekly member observations and individual check-ins aimed at supporting members in developing their capacity to provide effective student support and make progress towards professional goals.

  • Facilitate weekly meetings of the DPC team to plan, review expectations, facilitate learning and exchange of ideas and help coordinate school-wide projects.

  • Facilitate team-building aimed at building professional community, morale and shared accountability among DPC members.

  • Maintain smooth program operations.

Management of Reading Partners Initiative

  • A primary responsibility of DPC members is to provide 1:1 reading support to students through a unique partnership with Reading Partners, a nonprofit organization that has developed a proven reading curriculum that DPC members are trained to implement. The DPC Site Director works with the Boston Promise Corps Program Director to ensures high quality implementation of this initiative, including:

    • Observing reading sessions and providing feedback for improvement to members. Reading Partners offers quality standards and tools to inform this process.

    • Implementing student reading assessments and tracking progress.

    • Maintaining smooth operations (schedules, documentation, materials).

Management of School Partnership

  • Serve as the on-site BPE contact for school administrators and teachers; meet regularly with school administrators and teachers to ensure successful program implementation.

  • Work with teachers, administrators, and the Boston Promise Corps Program Director to troubleshoot and creatively solve any issues that arise from member service.

Enrichment Time Leadership

  • Work with Boston Promise Corps Program Director and school administrators to develop and innovate around high quality enrichment programming that DPC members support and deliver.

  • Support DPC members in planning and implementation of programming.

  • Document implementation efforts in order to identify best practices and inform program development.

DPC Program Development and Support

  • Work with the DPC Program Team (comprised of the two DPC Site Directors and the Boston Promise Corps Program Director) to lead the 7-week summer orientation and training for DPC members (beginning July 5, 2017), as well as regular all-corps professional development sessions throughout the year.

  • Work with the Boston Promise Corps Program Director and school leaders to plan and lead school-based professional development sessions for members.

  • Identify member needs and ensure professional development/ training opportunities are responsive to these needs and aligned with program goals.

  • Provide data and support to the Boston Promise Corps Program Director for AmeriCorps site visits, funding reports and proposals.

  • Maintain compliance with all AmeriCorps systems and regulations including monitoring and approving member service hours.

Experience and Skills:


  • At least three years of work experience in nonprofit programs in a relevant field

  • Experience in an urban school setting, ideally with a focus on early childhood and/or literacy

  • Proven ability to develop relationships with students and adults

  • Experience with program design, development and management, team management and supervision.

  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills

  • Empathetic listener, with experience in negotiating and counseling

  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Detail-oriented and organized

  • Facility with MS Office products

  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible in a fast-paced environment

  • Creativity and ability to innovate

  • Team-player attitude, but also the ability to work independently and be self-directed
